There are several a wide range of screen capture methods available in Preview app which are basically the same to the basic computer keyboard shortcuts that are generally used on the Mac OS X Yosemite and also Mac OS X EI Capitan. Here's ways to use each of the 3 solutions to take photos of the whole screen ( or a partial of screen) in the Preview app of OS X:

Step 1: Go to LaunchPad >> Click on Other >> Click on Preview app.

Step 2: Open the screen which you want to take a screenshot and Click on the "File" menu choose "Take Screen Shot" and select 1 of 3 methods from Preview app:

1. With Selection which brings up the choice program, the same as Command + Shift + 4.
2. With Window which allows the window selection tool, such as Command + Shift + 4 + Spacebar.
3. With Entire Screen which get the entire display screen like as Command + Shift + 3.

Step 3: The screenshots will open quickly into Preview in which they may be cropped, adjusted, and saved.

And you also can see more ways from webpage of Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht201361 or Hompage TASG: http://takeascreenshotguide.com
